Following Tet holiday
of Kinh ethnic people, on the full moon night of the 16th, January,
Ma coong ethnic people is hold drum
festival. This is a unique festival of ethnic minorities in the West of Quang
Binh that is unchanged original value. It attracted more and more domestic
tourist and international tourist when they went to Quang Binh on time of
festival
Once upon a time, Ma
coong ethnic people had lived very hardly .
They faced with many dangers such as hunger, wild animal, etc. While Ma coong
people were against evil monkey, village patriarch found out a method to help
people is that drum. To remain the merit of village patriarch, Ma coong people
will hold to drum festival on 16th, January. The ceremony and
present of Drum Festival are prepared stringent. The village patriarch is
leader of festival. Before the festival, each family prepared a food table
include stick rice, banana flower, cock, Hung wine, fish stream.
A special type of tree was made drum called “chi
cup”. This is a kind of good wood. They
can bear the effect of rain and sunshine, surface of drum made by deer’s skin
and buffalo’s skin. According to local custom, drum is connected with together before
one day and selects the experience
elderly, healthy man and good luck in business.
The festival begins when the moon rise on 16th,
January (January lunar calendar). Village patriarch is the leader of festival
who wore black dress with full color. All of participant wore dress tradition
of ethnic group. They wearing necklace,
wearing silver bracelets. Everybody lines up and returns face on
the main altar on which 5 salver of food have been set,
it symbolizes for 5 main family names in Ma coong. The leader of ceremony read the pray about half an hour. And then, the leader
took drumstick to move on drum and beat the
drum, the drumbeat resound around mountain and forest. After that,
representation of 5 mains family name will beat
the drum and to be continued each people will beat. Everybody to continue
strike until they break the drum and the fire is dying, giving back the forest
dark.
The Drum festival bring hope about lucky, sacredly for
Ma coong people. They wait for next year’s festival....
